My prediction is that Israel is weak, Christianised, toothless, can't just murder all the Gaza vermin, can't annex even the Druze areas of Syria, has pulled its forces out of Lebanon, is allied to Egypt and Jordan, cannot threaten Turkey, what a joke. Now the orange emperor has declared the peace of our time, too. And the Iranian government is likely the strongest it's ever been due to an upsurge of patriotism.

On another note, I have read a really insightful Russian comment about Pallavicini, I might repost it on the next 24 hours.

Also, I've recently asked about the EMP strike (in view of the Starr article), and the EMP strike's effects seem to be overblown? Because of EMP exists, then the DPRK would have a MAD parity with America with just 50 nukes (if nukes exist, that is).

Still, as regards this war - if Iran does not get a revolution, invading it would be really difficult... right? But there's nothing special about the effects he stated. Any protections against transient surges will protect equipment against E1 waves. Pages 50 to 53 of Savage et al. (2010) goes into these protections. On Page 55, the authors conclude:

<i>Unlike for E3 (late time HEMP), the high voltage transmission lines themselves are not of especially high concern for E1 HEMP. [...] Also, high tension systems tend to be hardier – they already are dealing with high voltages and currents compared to what E1 HEMP can produce. These high voltage lines also often have good lightning protection.</i>

Interesting, that the articles Starr cites directly refutes him.

2 The so-called "Super-EMP" weapons are a Russian thing, but my issue with these sources are that they were made in 2006 and there's nothing to show for it. Russian nuclear saber-rattling has since moved on to their 6 wunderwaffes, Avangard, Burevestnik, Zircon, Kinzhal, Poseidon, and Sarmat. It seems unlikely to me that Russia (who's bragged about how dangerous these weapon delivery systems are, how they're impossible to intercept, and how they restore Russian nuclear deterrence against the USA) would actively possess such a capability and not hint at its actual existence officially. Sure, they might be a secret ace up their sleeve, but a perfectly kept secret deters nobody.

It's also funny that Starr calls Jacobsen's book Nuclear War: A Scenario remarkable because it's not. It's pop science at best, and the subreddit isn't exactly a fan of it. Like Starr, it's good prose, but even the excerpt he quotes is questionable. Cars stop working, dams burst, sewage systems explode and insects start swarming in "less than 15 minutes", elevators speed to the ground and crash, "thousands of subway trains, passenger trains, and freight trains traveling in every direction, many on the same tracks, collide with one another, crash into walls and barriers, or derail", satellites fall out of the sky, nuclear power plants go into meltdown because all their backup systems fail.

1. Hydroelectric dams don't burst when they shut down.

2. Elevators don't crash into the ground when the power goes out. They have so many mechanical failsafes specifically to prevent cars from plummeting straight down no matter what.

3. If a blackout occurs, electrically-powered subway trains don't spontaneously crash into each other. They just stop because there's no power.

4. Trains don't derail or jump tracks just because the signals go out. That's not how track switching works. Moreover, most tracks can default back to physical signals and mechanical train detection systems to detect the presence/absence of trains on defined sections of their lines.

5. Satellites are really hard to deorbit. They might fail if they pass through zones of high radiation or if they're hit by an EMP, but I need you and other readers of Jacobsen to understand that NASA estimates the ISS's orbit will take 12 to 18 months to decay from its current orbital altitude. EMPs aren't magic broomsticks that sweep shit from orbit.

6. Jacobsen claims that backup diesel generators at nuclear power plants are cooked if there's an EMP. But 1) diesel generators, when unplugged, are unlikely to be affected because they're unplugged, and 2) if it's just an EMP, most light water reactors are designed to fail gracefully anyway. Control rods are held up by electromagnets, so in the event of a power loss, they drop back into the reactor and shut down the reaction. So I have absolutely no idea why she thinks EMP = 26 Chernobyls across the USA.

3 So I'm looking at [39], since Starr claims that it states that "scientists have confirmed, by 'all means of measurement', that the threat potential posed by EMP E3 exceeds the intended stress limit the aging U.S. power network is designed and tested to withstand. That's a 2010 article, but a more recent Congressional Research Service report (2022) notes that the USA has since pushed for greater EMP resilience. Specifically, LPT stockpiling programs are in place <b>(contrary to what Starr claimed)</b> and there's significant R&D into developing solid-state alternatives to LPTs that are less vulnerable to HEMPs.

More generally, it's absolutely wild to me that Starr cites all sorts of claims that the USA has done nothing to protect itself from HEMPs, and they're all pre-2010 documents (e.g., [50] is a 2008 report from a congressional committee about how the USA isn't prepared to survive a HEMP strike). As a researcher I'm appalled at how Starr hasn't looked up more recent literature. This comes across as a shoddy literature review.

Hey, wanted to discuss this with someone about elite infiltration and such. Considering that the strategist sometimes uses the "appeal to gestures" argument, literally.
